After receiving Your tattoo it is on You to make sure that it stays healthy and heals good.
1. When You get home, if You had a Removable bandage put on the tattoo remove it and wash it really well with some Warm Water and Non Scented Soap. Tap dry it and just let it be. You will not put lotion on it the first day to 2 days.
If You had a Bandage put on like Tagaderm or Saniderm, You will leave that on and go about Your life. There is instances where the tattoo will release fluids in the first day, in this case You will need to remove the bandage and wash it throughly, let it air dry for about 10 to 15 mins and then re apply the bandage that You have been given. Then You will let it stay on there for 3 more days. No matter what, the 1st bandage needs to stay on for 24 hours. To remove that bandage, it is best to do it under some running water, because it can be pretty sticky. Once this is done, You will go do the traditional method of taking care of it, which is as follows.
Always wash Your hands thoroughly before touching Your tattoo.
2. Wash the Tattoo thoroughly with Warm water and Non Scented Soap. [ There is a soap called Clearly Naturals which is a good, 2 to 3 ingredient soap that works well]
Rinse it off with Cold water to close the pores back down and tap dry with a clean paper towel or towel.
3. For the first day and a half I do not suggest putting any lotion or balm on it. But after that You will need to put a Non Scented type of lotion or balm. Things like Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, or just Non Scented Lotions is what is preferred. There is also a lot of Natural based Balms made for Tattoos out there which You can look into as well. If You are unsure You can always ask Your Artist.
*** PUT A VERY THIN LAYER OF LOTION ON YOUR TATTOO. IF TOO MUCH IS PUT ON, IT SUFFOCATES AND PREVENTS THE TATTOO FROM BREATHING WHICH COULD RESULT IN A POORLY HEALED TATTOO OR INFECTION.
DAB IT WITH A PAPER TOWEL AFTER PUTTING THE LOTION ON TO REMOVE EXCESS.
4. Repeat this 2 to 3 times a day for 2 weeks.
5. DO NOT soak the tattoo under water for longer periods of time.
DO NOT Keep it exposed to sun
DO NOT Expose it to debris or anywhere where it's dirty.
DO NOT put Scented things over the tattoo
Keep tight clothing away from the tattoo, and avoid rubbing it up and down with clothing.
For women try to keep bra straps away from the tattoo as much as You can if the tattoo is there.
Keep sweat off of Your tattoo as much as You can.
We do not suggest Working out or heavy physical activities during the first 3 to 4 days of the tattoo healing.
6. Keep an eye on Your tattoo. It is an open wound. Things could potentially happen where an Infection could occur but if You take care of it and are aware of it, You will be just fine.
Things to look out for are intense redness around the tattoo.
Tattoo becoming more swollen or red as the healing stage is happening.
Very sore to the touch, big scabs, tenderness, also any type of fluid oozing besides the fluid that is released under the Tagaderm bandage.
Other signs would be fever, rash, feeling Your immune system is down.
If any of these occur You need to contact Your Artist, or the Studio, and possibly go see Your doctor if it reaches that.
We hope that Your tattoo will heal with ease and without issues. If You have any questions at all. Or are hesitant about something don't hesitate to call us and ask!
Thank You,
The SanVita Team
